From the time of India’s freedom movement, Mathrubhumi is one of the front-runners among the Malayalam-language newspapers. The first copy of the Mathrubhumi newspaper was published on the month of 18th of March 1923, it was the day before the first anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s arrest. Led by Mr. K.P.Kesava Menon, the prominent freedom fighter of the country, as Editor and K. Madhavan Nair as Managing Director of this paper, it was the best media for spreading the message of India’s National Movement. Initially, the newspaper was published a week and had only one edition from Kozhikode (Calicut). A newspaper born out of a relentless passion for India’s National movement, it went on to become an inalienable part of Kerala’s social fabric. At this time, with sixteen editions, from which ten in Kerala, one in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangaluru, Chennai, Dubai, and Doha with an impressive circulation of over 1.5 million copies.
Why people will choose the Matrubhumi newspaper?
Matrubhumi is a very good newspaper in our country, its presentation is very attractive, news research is extensive and explained in a simple manner. But we would say it’s better for local and regional news. Its national and international news is just average though it has several tie-ups with foreign media houses they don’t serve the purpose. Consult some other newspaper for national news. If you want to choose this newspaper then it’s up to you.

History of Mathrubhumi Newspaper :
The history of Mathrubhumi is very similar to the history of the state’s freedom movement, and that of the Indian National Congress. Before Mathrubhumi published into being, there were four Malayalam News Papers and three English News Papers, which came from Kozhikode. But none of these favored the freedom movement. Secretary of Kerala State Congress Committee, K.P Kesava Menon realized the urgent need for a pro-freedom movement edition from the Malabar region. Then he along with his confidants resolved to register The Mathrubhumi Printing and Publishing Company Limited with an authorized capital of Rs.1, 00,000/- in 20,000 shares of Rs.5/- each. At this time, the Company was capable to collect a number of Rs.15, 000/- only, and the registration took place on 15th
At this time Mr. K. Madhavan Nair became the first Managing Director of this company. After months later, he quit his position due to reasons very personal and he was replaced by K.P Kesava Menon. On the 13th of November 1922, this media acquired the Empress Victoria Press owned by Kuruppathu Kesava Menon. The first edition of the newspaper carried a strong message of support for the Indian National Movement and a pledge to unify the un-organized Malayalees. The great Poets like Vallathol Narayana Menon often expressed their patriotic feelings through the columns of the newspaper Mathrubhumi, inspiring the Indian National freedom fighters. Many patriotic songs, stories, and features were famous among the commoners as well as the news and facts about the fighting movement.
